I’m asking you to get in your car, hop on a train, or whatever it takes to join me in taking our fury back into the streets this Saturday June 24 in Washington D.C. as we mark one year without Roe. Let me tell you why.
How else can we mark this devastating anniversary then in the streets, outside the Supreme Court, the scene of this grave crime against women and girls and all who can become pregnant?
Stand with me in making this anniversary a rallying cry for legal abortion on demand and without apology nationwide and everywhere.
I was outside the Supreme Court with Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights on June 24 last summer when the fascist-stacked Supreme Court overturned Roe and declared women second class citizens. I recall learning what happened by the perverse screams of joy and popping of champagne bottles from the forced birthers. The fact that I had spent months sounding the alarm about where this was headed, did not soften the blow of this gut punch.
I remember the rage coursing through my veins as I screamed into the megaphone ILLEGITIMATE again and again and the grief-stricken tear-filled eyes of young women from diverse backgrounds as they joined us in chanting, “This decision must not stand! Women’s lives are in our hands! LEGAL ABORTION ON DEMAND! “ late into the night and returning early the next morning.
I want you to remember your rage, your heartache, your fear and bring all of that back into the streets where it has power.

One year later, over 22 million women and girls of reproductive age do not have access to abortion in the state they live in. Tens of thousands have been forced to give birth against their will and all women and girls everywhere have been dehumanized by a state that says we are nothing more than incubators.
This Saturday, the theocrats who were popping champagne in front of SCOTUS will be out celebrating once more and demanding the codification of fetal personhood and a nationwide ban on abortion. One year later the callous lie of “sending it back to the states” rings with profound cruelty as the Christian Fascists in and out of power salivate over a nationwide abortion ban and our free states shrink each month.
Still looming large is the very real possibility that the main abortion drug will be pulled from shelves. On top of all of this, as harrowing as this year has been, it is clear that this is only the beginning of the hell they hope to reign down on women, girls, and LGBTQ people. Just look at how fast and furiously they have gone after our trans siblings off of their victory in decimating Roe.
Last year I worried the world would only see our tears as we women slowly vanish from public life defeated. I worried that we would swallow our rage as this gross assault on our humanity and lives barreled ahead. I worried that we’d surrender and accommodate to this indignity, following the counsel of those telling us to dig in for the “long-haul” of the electoral process.
In this past year despite the wide-felt outrage, the vast support for abortion rights and the private heartache felt by the majority of us at the now daily tragic stories caused by this overturn the streets have been deafeningly silent, the decent people too passive as the women-hating theocrats continue to mobilize to strip away this fundamental right. But this does not have to be our future.
That is why I am urging you to come be in D.C. with me and if you absolutely can’t join me, to donate generously to support this effort.
