On Sunday, services at a mega-church in Houston were disrupted by activists with Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights; in Los Angeles, activists dropped a huge green banner during a Dodgers baseball game. On Tuesday, protesters stormed the court at a WNBA game in Brooklyn and received a standing ovation from the crowd. These actions directly challenge and call forward the vast majority of people in this country who support the right to legal abortion to get off the sidelines themselves and join in visible nonviolent mass protest in the streets and everywhere else. To go from passive support for legal abortion to actively fighting now, first in our thousands and very, very soon in our millions, so that we can STOP the Supreme Court from overturning Roe v. Wade.

Don’t listen to those who tell you that it is more ‘realistic’ to channel our fury into voting for the Democrats in the next election (after Roe has been overturned). No! It is far harder to win back a right once they have ripped it away than to defend it when you still have it. Besides, the Democrats and others have for decades sought ‘common ground’ with those driving the fanatical attack on abortion. What is needed is an uncompromising fight for the lives of women…
We will make clear to the woman-haters on the Supreme Court and everywhere else that if they take away the right to abortion, their society will be prevented from functioning at all. We will NOT go back!
On May 14th tens of thousands of people took to the streets in hundreds of cities to stand up for abortion rights. Among them, thousands joined RiseUp4AbortionRights in declaring: OVERTURN ROE? HELL NO!

The Supreme Court stands poised to gut and very possibly overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that established the right of women to abortion. A decision is expected by late Spring.
This comes on top of hundreds of restrictions that effectively deny this essential right to huge numbers of women already. This could trigger more than 20 states to immediately ban or severely restrict abortion.
The attack on abortion rights is part of a patriarchal Christian fascist program that takes aim at contraception as well as LGBTQ rights. Denying the right to abortion hits poor women, and especially Black and other women of color, with vicious consequence – tightening the chains of both white supremacy and the subjugation of women……
The Supreme Court’s cruel plan to repeal Roe v. Wade and wipe out the right to abortion is a major attack which must be DEFEATED NOW—this May and June—before it is hammered into law.
This could be done if people in our millions make clear, through massive non-violent resistance, that we will bring the gears of society to a grinding halt before we allow the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade.
